is there a succinct way of describing programming languages that would include bash, haskell and javascript but not SQL? "application programming languages" and "languages that aren't relational" are a bit of a mouthful. (Prolog could play for either team probably)

Heh :) I'm sure it's possible. Is always tricky, because you're not really talking about the limits of what can be done, it's more about what common patterns of use are. SQL is already TC with some inoffensive-looking extensions, right?
