I have maintained for a while that a different prime minister would have gone to the EU, said "we have a problem" and would have come back with some deal people would have been happy with (probably something we could do already...) and all this could have been sorted in a year.

Although I suppose I thought a similar thing about lecturers until someone thought it was a good idea to let me do it. I expect we're doomed.
