Let me tell you why, at least from my perspective. When I was a student at UBA, Argentina, I heard of Whitespace in the main PL course. It was not a joke, it was a philosophy. It was like Number 9 from The Beatles: stretching the limits of what's possible, even if unheardable. 1/

Similarly, Whitespace was stretching the notion of syntax, and what it means to be "turing complete". Several years later, when I learned that you were behind it, I thought "it makes sense, now he's stretching the notion of types" (luckily, a nice song this time :-) ) 2/2
