Transferable lesson:
Don't wait until the end of term to ask your students what they think about your lectures. Do it every single lecture. Give them a feedback form. Kill trees and teach.
I learned this from @DuncanSmeed and it's a vital source of clue.

There are several aspects to that. I have an outrageously simple (ok, devious) way to use this as an attendance recorder by bulk-scanning the pages. Otherwise, it's not that big a deal to filter for the ones that need a response. A PhD student does that, and sorts for comedy.
