Fortunately when I'm being enthusiatic in class, people generally let me get on with it. Even on the occasions when I'm being enthusiastic about Software Engineering (It does happen!)

If there are people who vaguely know of cricket, they tend to want to throw in unnecessary complications to make it sound harder than it is. It's kind of how I feel when explaining type systems sometimes...

Yes, there's a few formats, but the basic rules, strategy and tactics are more or less the same whatever. For some reason people prefer explaining complications rather than fundamentals...

probably some psychological associations here. American football has a bunch of obscure rules but in America rules are for losers and we all know the point of the game is just to bash things

Mostly we let the umpires deal with the details so that everyone else can just enjoy the game. Stats, though, yes, that's where it really starts getting fun :)
