Today we're installing ANPR cameras in 8 locations to collect data on the type, fuel and age of vehicles being driven in the city. Cameras will be in place for 1 week and info collected will be used as part of the Liverpool Clean Air Plan πŸ‘‡ letscleartheairliverpool.co.uk/clean-air-plan

Transport is a complicated thing though so it's probably time we brought in psychologists to 'fix' things. For too long it's been left to engineers and robots disguised as traffic lights

So when councils come to 'fix' congestion, motorists cry 'you're going to make things worse' when perhaps they are thinking 'please don't take away my only slice of peace and quiet' πŸ€”

I'm thinking this as someone who is in favour of bus lanes and cycle routes through cities as a way of increasing capacity along with the other benefits of liveability, cleaner air, safer streets, etc.

As politicians and the evil systems of capitalism try and squeeze out yet more productivity from a broken system, maybe we should look at idle motorists as a kind of anti-capitalist victory

When an efficient cyclist whizzes by, I'm not so sure the drivers are looking on with envy or even frustration. Perhaps a sense of pity that we aren't experiencing similar levels of comfort and zen like relaxation. What's the rush?

The sense of calm and quiet between the end of work and the start of chaotic home life is a valuable time, don't you think? The radio or a podcast on. A cheeky check of the phone, etc. Bliss

As satisfying as it is to cycle past hundreds of 'stuck' motorists and highlight their assumed misery and frustration, what if ... 'they' like being stuck in traffic of their own making?

EPISODE 99: "Car Brain with Dr. Ian Walker." @ianwalker joins us for a fascinating discussion about a new study into the unconscious biases we all share in favor of cars, whether we drive or not β€” a phenomenon he and his co-authors call "motonormativity." thewaroncars.org/2023/01/31/car

The route has been in for almost a year now. Congestion is fine. Emergency services can bypass cars so can move *faster*. Needs continuing on further to Moreton to connect more residents

Yes, @WirralCouncil! What was once a dual carriageway is now a safe route for cycling. Fender Lane, starting outside Bidston station. Opened last week 😎 @merseycyclists @lizgrey_ @simonobtv1

If we start to view the car as a consumer appliance rather than some obscure extension of the human body then maybe we can start to reign things in a little. Just a thought

"If places were designed around cars we wouldn't have a parking problem." This is why we have very diverging opinions within transport. My truth is: **WE HAVE A PARKING PROBLEM BECAUSE PLACES HAVE BEEN DESIGNED AROUND CARS** Delete parking asap.

Replying to @JoeTurner1978 @edwardlamb and @georgebernhard
Better public transport is required to entice people out of cars. If places were designed around cars we wouldn't have a parking problem. Some people need cars. That need can only be removed through providing a good alternative.

Decades of a lack of forward thinking on 'road safely' has left us with a sterile, dangerous public realm. We know what we need to do... lower limits, filtered routes for cars, slower/lighter vehicles and more walking/cycling πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
