#mtgfinance Anyone who thinks singles in Modern Horizons will be cheap because the set is not limited is misguided. A booster costing twice as much will have dramatically lower sales than a standard in-print pack and the cost for stores to open product for singles is also higher.

Does this likely have a lot shorter draft life too, with maybe 1-3 weekends for prerelease and the weeks after? I know the master sets are a quick flash locally before they go back to the standard set because the price/prize support ratio is so high.

That's fair, but most preorder prices are silly crazy nonsense!

How do you figure? If we assume a generous 3 mythics per box (rate is closer to 2.5), it takes 5 boxes to open one of each Mythic (and we assume perfectly normal distribution). Distributor cost is almost 180 per box (2.25x a normal box). Why are the prices “silly crazy nonsense”?

Following WAR will make this worse. WAR has been the most relevant set for eternal formats in years. Paying double for cards that aren't also relevant in Standard is going to be a harder sell than if this followed something like Dragon's Maze.

I think as hype fades from modern back to standard the prices will go down. In the meantime though yeah they’re gonna be high
