I was a night manager at the one on Mass Ave in Boston and, later, when it moved near Fenway. Drunk customers would come in after games and start chants of "Yankees Suck." (When they weren't playing the Yankees.)

How did you transition into journalism from this? Did someone take a chance and hire you or did you have to perform a lot of free labor?

It was a very small town and I doubt anyone else even applied.
they didn’t pay much but it was better than the Harley shop.

Menu cover manufacturer? You probably still can take mechanic classes. Good skill!

I don’t remember the specifics, but HD either paid for or provided the courses for employees at the time.

My best job before journalism was doing R&D for Fresh Step cat litter. We had to satisfy two customers: the owner and the cat! To test we had to use real kitty byproducts: imagine beakers of cat urine under a vent hood. We even had a professional "nose" who sniffed our results.

That's one of those jobs you never think someone is doing, but I guess someone's gotta do it!
