This is not a drill! This is happening! After much musing over the years about there being potential for an anime adaptation of ‘Scott Pilgrim’, I’m thrilled to say one is IMMINENT, with the whole cast back together and… you are going to lose your minds.

The first time I went to Seoul in 2017 Bong Joon Ho hosted my Q&A and took me on a epic night out in various boozy vinyl record bars. Frankly it’s outrageous he didn’t get an Oscar for that. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

RIP Ian Holm, a genius actor who brought considerable presence to parts funny, heartbreaking & terrifying. Thanks for Bilbo, Napoleon (twice), Sweet Hereafter, Big Night, Brazil and, of course the iconic Ash. "I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies."

You cannot nuke a hurricane for obvious reasons. The resulting shockwaves could reverberate into space, shatter the Phantom Zone and release galactic criminals into our atmosphere who may then try to invade Earth. I can’t believe this is even a discussion.

Loved 'Parasite', but haven't seen much other Korean cinema? Here's some suggestions to dive into another cinematic world. First up, earlier masterpieces by Bong Joon Ho: Memories Of Murder, The Host, Mother, Snowpiercer (unjustly buried by Weinstein) & Okja.

I'm sad to report that when 'Hot Fuzz' leaves Netflix on August 1st, it will no longer be available in any form. Aside from on VHS, DVD, Blu Ray, HD DVD, Itunes, Amazon and ITV 2 on an hourly basis. (Also 4K edition out soon x)

Only Taika Waititi could make a coming of age film about a Nazi Youth in which he stars as a imaginary Hitler and it somehow be the feel good comedy of the year that every kid should see. Speaking of which, ‘JoJo Rabbit’ also features the best ‘fuck’ in a PG 13 in recent memory.

I love Brussels Sprouts. Mr does not. Last year I said he and would be nominated for Original Screenplay at the 2018 Oscars and that if I was right he had to eat a bowl of sprouts. So last night we celebrated with that classic combo: champagne and sprouts.

The living room set rolls out and the school corridor set is underneath. No green screen at all. If you hear the raw production sound it sounds like the whole earth moving outside the bathroom.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of 's 'SPACED'. To say it changed my universe would be an understatement; I've made friends for life in the cast & crew. So let me to salute the baby Jessica Hynes and Simon Pegg dreamed up with an epic thread of photos from the shoot.

To talk about something other than the Oscars slap, it still sticks in my craw that most winners had far less time than presenters (does everyone need to do banter?). I didn't like seeing Ryusuke Hamaguchi played off three times. And call me old fashioned but... 1/2

Tomorrow is the actual 10th anniversary of #ScottPilgrimVsTheWorld and I'll be sharing some rare behind the scenes photos, linking to new articles and maybe share a little OST news (!). In the meantime though, how about a metric tonne of photos from before we even shot a frame?

Paddy Considine is one of our finest working actors, but his greatest performance? It’s not in ‘Hot Fuzz’, but is in the making of documentary where he remained in character as DC Andy Wainwright. See here where he talks about what he thinks of the esteemed ensemble cast..

Not quite true! We wrote the scene and thought it would be funny to have a famous actress in the part but to never take off the mask. We had heard Cate Blanchett liked 'Shaun Of The Dead' so we asked her. She said yes, shot for a day and gave her fee to charity. An Aussie legend.
Quote
Cate Blanchett’s cameo in Hot Fuzz (2007) came about as she loved Shaun Of The Dead (2004) and asked Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg if she could be in their next picture. Fearing her level of fame may overshadow the film (and thinking it would be funny), they hid her behind a mask.

I have told this story before, but I was sent a script for an advert years ago that was to be shot ‘in the style of Spaced’, the TV show that I directed every episode of. I lost out to another director and did not get the job of ripping myself off.

Max Von Sydow, such an iconic presence in cinema for seven decades, it seemed like he'd always be with us. He changed the face of international film with Bergman, played Christ, fought the devil, pressed the HOT HAIL button & was Oscar nominated for a silent performance. A god.

If anyone thought Hot Fuzz was far fetched; may I present my home town (ahem ‘smallest city in England’) of Wells, Somerset. This looks like the final boss level of the non-existent side scrolling beat ‘em up video game version of the film.

This meme turns up with alarming frequency. It's worth pointing out that on one hand, Shaun's Winchester idea ends with most of his party dying, but on the other hand he tried, he did something. So, that counts.

My least favourite thing about choosing to go to the cinema for the big screen experience... are the long ads trying to sell me on going to the cinema for a big screen experience. Please, I am already here. I’m the literally the last person you need to sell. Now put the film on.

I'd have liked to see Samuel L Jackson and Liv Ullmann get more than just a cursory mention for their lifetime achievements, let alone Elaine May & Danny Glover who got nothing. I hope I'm not alone in wanting a show with more context and celebration of nominees and winners. 2/3
