Despite all our efforts, we're still emitting more CO2 than ever. Humans will very likely destroy the planet more in 2023 than in any other year in history. We need to push for action on this crisis now, even when we're far from election season. The Earth is worth it.

Trash pickup day 1,290. This was a 45 minute pickup. #EarthCleanUp Brought out my huge 50-gallon bag to clean up tons of clothing and other large items littered in this creek. All of it must have weighed 30-40 lbs. Even pulled a huge planet out of the creek.

The fossil fuel industry knows the evidence of climate change is rock solid. They cannot form an alternative theory of what has been going on without it being disproven. Instead, they deploy tactics of confusion to mix and muddle the public's understanding of climate change.

The climate conversation is being hijacked by bots, trolls, and grifters. The rate at which I see people getting distracted by these so-called "climate deniers" is up significantly in the past 18 months. Don't acknowledge them. They feed off your attention. Ignore and move on.

A very shallow fog layer just overtook downtown San Jose. I nabbed these photos 5 minutes apart. I can still see the full moon overhead, but I can't see more than a block away horizontally.

Trash pickup day 1,289. This was a 60 minute pickup. #EarthCleanUp Back at Belgatos Park cleaning up litter. Much of this glass has been here for years. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more than a few items I picked today that have been here longer than I've been alive.

Carbon capture is such a funny concept to me. Nature already captures CO2 in large liquid reserves deep underground in the form of petroleum. Let's leave it down there!

Trash pickup day 1,287. This was a 20 minute pickup.#EarthCleanUp Another bucket here at Penitencia Creek east of San Jose. It's one thing for there to be trash on a random hillside deep within a park, but it's another for there to be trash in a creekbed beside all these homes.

This is just incredible. Check out the impact of global climate change and the urban heat island on Pasadena, CA's climate, a suburb of Los Angeles. Except for the 1940s, each decade has been substantially warmer than the previous over the past 11 decades.

Every day I spend at college deepens my realization that the climate crisis is an incredibly complex issue that no one person can fully grasp, even with a lifetime spent in that field. At the same time, my understanding of why we don't implement what solution we do have shrinks.

Missed my cleanup today for the first time in 7 or 8 weeks? (Day 1,286) Had class from 9 AM - 6 PM. Barely even had time to go get lunch. Tuesday will be like this during this semester, but once DST begins and the sunsets get later, I can stop missing.

Trash pickup day 1,285. This was a 30 minute pickup. #EarthCleanUp I'm a little pissed today. I knew this creek had lots of trash in it from last semester. It's gone now. It wasn't picked up. It was taken away by flash floods and brought to the ocean. This is a policy failure.

Trash pickup day 1,284. This was a 45 minute pickup. #EarthCleanUp All of my regular parks here in San Jose are closed due to storm damage, so I have to head to new ones. This is Mission Peak, which I've only cleaned once before early last semester.

Here is a look at Pasadena, CA's 6-month running temperature anomaly from June 1909 through January 2023: We've come down from our Mar '22 - Sept '22 peak in which the 6-month running anomaly was 9.92°F above the early 20th century average!! We're currently sitting at +7.04°F.

We have the solutions to the climate crisis. We can drastically reduce our impact on the natural world within the next decade by doing everything in our power to deploy renewable energy resources. But we choose not to. Why? Because a small group of people want to remain rich.

For over a decade, Leticia here has spent her free time cleaning up municipal waste left behind by others in Juneau, Alaska. She pays $50 each time to dump the trash properly at a designated site. I think it's high time we help her out, yes? Venmo: Leticia-McRae-1

In 2 days our dump fees go from 50.00 a load to 141.18. Our town is going to get a lot of illegal dumping. And this will effect my clean up efforts greatly. May even be the end of my 10 year run of cleaning my community. I’m heart broken! 💔

The fossil fuel industry is run by savages who gleefully watch the planet die while they reap the profits. You should be furious. They have sold our future to satisfy their greed, but even at trillions of dollars in profits over decades, they still can't get enough.

One of the best pieces I got today. 4th semester sea glass collection has already begun. I found 3 bottles in Heintz Open Space yesterday that I'll clean up and put my sea glass in.

Found a huge piece of dark brown sea glass at the beach today. It was almost a piece of black sea glass. Watched what happened just seconds later. Incredible.

I know people aren't going to agree with this opinion, but please remember that some folks need access to nature for their mental health and park closures can be used by NIMBYs to gatekeep these natural areas. As I said, parks should only be closed a max of 10-15 days / 10yrs.
