Really tired of this whole “Omg, wtf are “incels”? I’ve never heard of this” bit from men. Women in the public eye have been sounding the alarm on the rising levels violent misogyny in online spaces for YEARS. But no one gave a shit about how we were being abused.

Men, you’ve known about “incels” for years. They’re your buddy bitching about “feminazis”, or crying about how some girl “friend-zoned” him. They’re your coworker who won’t just take a polite “no” from women in the office, your brother who thinks women use sex as a “power play”.

It is both wrong and unhelpful to cast the “incel” phenomenon as some kind of dark internet cult. This is garden variety misogyny and rape culture with extra disgusting language. Toxic masculinity bred it, and other men’s silence/subtle approval has allowed it to blossom.

Yes. The unfortunate thing about incel is that it's an exaggerated form of a lot of the nonsense men are brought up to believe about how relationships and dating are supposed to work. From films and books to the stories passed from kid to kid.
