I want to see more full-time small working groups driving entire projects to completion - foundational work too, not just language features (that might make it a hard sell) also, this gives a really good background, you should probably watch it!http://youtu.be/0sIgVnRAcn0

this is an example of something that we could've made more progress on by now with a small coordinated team working full-time with *just* this goal: https://github.com/rust-lang/rls/issues/6 … (I have some comments in there but I'm not sure I got my point across)

we sometimes throw around words like "capacity" or "bandwidth", but at the end of the day, it's people who work on Rust, people with individual perspectives, work styles and needs people who can burn out most importantly, people who trade at least some of their time for income

opensource software is built by people, and in the world we live in, corporations making a profit with technologies built on top of OSS, should give back and ensure the material well-being of those people, and any future contributors but "should" isn't enough for it to happen

("corporations" is a bit too specific, other economic entities employ OSS too) without actively raising awareness, they can grow complacent without organizing on our side, even when they want to give back to opensource, we're not ready to receive and distribute

I'm lucky (and perhaps privileged) enough to have been contracted (on and off) for the past 3 years, to work on the Rust compiler but it's been a bumpy road, and there are still a lot of contributors who could do great work full-time, if they had the opportunity

I would be happy to do compiler and other work if paid, working remotely... have spent years doing similar.
-
I would too! Rust has been one of the technologies giving me hope of a better future...I would love to give back. :)
