I am utterly amazed Tesco have bowed down to this lunacy.

If I were a Tesco manager, I'd follow the government guidance even if I thought it was stupid in order to not get fined, and just let outraged customers take it to the government to make them overturn it

Man, that is really depressing... I don't recognise the world I'm living in anymore. Why aren't you standing up to this, Tesco?

Surely if you are in lockdown, books, magazines, etc ARE essentials to stop people getting bored when they do nothing else!!!

I believe the essential / non-essential definitions were from the government. Tesco merely toeing the line.

The theory is sort of sound, in that it’s economically unfair if a bookshop that ONLY sells books has to close, but you can still buy them at Tesco. See also hardware, clothes etc. The problem is that the internet undermines all this.

Is this actually a rule or has Tesco poorly judged this one? I don't see why the wordsearch mags to the left would be different

Because "nonessential shops" did not want supermarkets getting a free pass to sell their wares

So Amazon gets the free pass instead. What a result.
