I was given free school meals after my parents divorce. There were some low lives on our estate ( a minority) who’d squander any help you gave them. But their children became successful artists, teachers & entrepreneurs. Kids represent our future & they’re our responsibility.

Same here, my dad dies when I was aged 7, me and my 2 brothers got for a small time ( Until mum got a job ) .. Why do Tories want to bully children in unfortunate circumstances ?

Couldn’t agree more, I was one of those kids too, received free school meals throughout my school years. It’s only people who’ve never been hard up that dismiss the huge difference it makes to those families that need it. #ENDCHILDFOODPOVERTY

Maybe we can apply the same logic to MP's... Some MP's abuse expenses, so let's stop expenses for all MP's. Some MP's drink too much in their subsidised bars, so let's shut down the bars for all MP's Some MP's are sex offenders, lets tag them all to be on the safe side.

Yep. Where we grew up nearly everyone was decent. Yes many struggled and needed support. But they were good people. It’s the same today. In someways worse. Because these people struggling now are working full time.

We went to the same school. Most parents protect their kids even if it means going without. Should we punish hungry children because there is a perceived idea of ‘unworthy parents’? Sounds like Victorian ‘unworthy poor’. Wealth doesn’t make a good parent just the ability to feed

As an American expat, this whole thing baffles me. My home country will strip every bit of the social safety net for parts in order to subsidise tax breaks for the top, but the school where I taught (in Texas, no less!) fed all under 18 year round

I was also given free school meals after my parents divorced, we were made to stay in a separate line until everyone else had got their meal and mocked by the other kids but it was worth it..i remember always being hungry back then

The old clichés children are our future, you get out what you put in. If you want a bright, successful future for our country nurture and nourish our children, all of them. It's simple.

To everyone expressing sentiments like “If you can’t feed em’ don’t breed em” Let me remind you of something. A lot of people are but one serious accident, illness or redundancy away from poverty. It can happen to you, it can happen to anybody. Don’t pre-judge

Yup. Me, nice middle class family. Mum died of cancer aged 46, me aged 10, brothers in their teens. Dad soon lost his job in sales as he couldn't leave us overnight for business trips. Out of work 18 months at 52. Nearly lost the house. Food was chaotic. Huge strain on kids.
