I'm loathe to admit it as an adult, but in high school I was really really into debate. The Trump era generally, but the impeachment specifically, has triggered all manner of unsavory memories. A short thread: 1/

In debate (especially in cross-x, the only real kind), people take turns arguing for an against a particular proposition. It's great training about how to make arguments and break other arguments apart, but 2/

You have to learn how to make claims that you don't necessarily support, which can be good medicine for sarcastic little misanthropes. It's a game and you can get good at it, which is ultimately why I lost interest. 3/

good ideas work one way inside of closed systems (courts, cable news) and another way outside those systems. There probably aren't enough votes to remove, but the better arguments matter a lot more outside the Senate than inside of it, because this isn't a game. 8/8
