Gravitating toward the idea that being kind entails abandoning a transactional approach to relationships, and a transactional approach to relationships is reinforced by an excessive exposure to markets.

It doesn't have to be doomed. It's just a terrible strategy that completely ignores the incentive structure reinforcing existing norms.

To be clear, consent culture advocates focus on asking men to do something that's not sexy and hurts their chances while also ruining the courtship experience for most women. From that perspective, it seems doomed.

There's a marketing campaign that's advertising that 'Consent is Sexy'. But it's not. It may be needed, but it's not sexy. Saying that it is sexy is propaganda in an effort to roll out a new norm. But, if it's a turn off, that's an uphill battle, ain't it?

If you want to map their experiential mold, look for peaks and valleys. The highs and lows had the greatest impact. They frame our values.

There are two kinds of information that you need: information about how they think about the world, and information about what they value. If you have both, that's as good as it gets.

What mental models do they work from? These are not very stable. What's top of mind gets traded out frequently. These are also tightly coupled to mindsets. Programmers will leverage programming abstractions to understand what they experience and solve problems, for example.

Related might be identifying the keywords in their private language. The mind plays with linguistic abstractions, and we build something like a domain specific language to manage that complexity. You are the domain. Keywords contain pointers to our values.

What mindsets do they employ? Here, you have something like personas to work from. The lawyer. The scientist. The designer. These types follow from something like value patterns in value space. They're easy to spot, and they tell you a lot.

My first thought was values, but values are hard to determine. They'll say one thing, and do another. So you have to watch for revealed preferences. It's not very efficient. Still, values are what matter. Many biases are proxy metrics to assess for shared values.

What's the best way to understand someone? I've been thinking about this for a while.

I've been learning PowerShell. Mr. Robbin's presentations have been very helpful.

There's a general design principle there, maybe a law of proximity. Keep close what matters most. Could also be applied to reinforce a separation of concerns.

There are moments where an encounter with a design is experientially similar to sitting in gridlocked traffic. It's kind of a curse of having a design mindset that these happen to you far more often than they would otherwise.

In case you ever forget that half of the population has below average intelligence (and average leaves much to be desired), something stupid will surface to remind you. It's easy to forget, because we tend to associate in ways that insulate us, but you can stop being surprised.
