This is probably, possibly, what people like me (ethnic Chinese overseas +/- non-Chinese citizens) are gonna deal with in the next 20 years: that people won’t treat me like everyone else because I’m Chinese and they’re scared of Beijing’s wrath (read: tantrums). Stupid China.

    学物理的博士朋友想去美国,因为中美关系恶化,被拒签了,澳洲留学生朋友因为疫情事件,也被拒签了。 这个国家的一些愚蠢政策,可能就这样毁掉了众多人的一生。

WHO doesn't give regulations, only recommendations. The rest is your responsibility. Don't hide behind UN bodies when you need them to insult them later.

Condemning how Beijing stifled doctors and local officials at the start isn’t sinophobic. Putting your obsession for Beijing above national security isn’t sinophobic either. And I’m freaking Chinese too. Where’s your god now?

I don't know about you, but I think as the Secretary of Health, it's a great insult to health workers who make ends meet for their patients when you reject the FACT that our Health system is in dire need of improvement.

This piece highlights what was so offensive about the Holocaust comparison: it wasn't even true. Jews fled to the Shanghai concessions, which had no border controls, they weren't allowed into the rest of China and there was no govt policy to accept them.

and the other thing about it is that, as many ppl have pointed out, China didn't control Shanghai's borders during the Holocaust as countries today do bc of the city's treaty port status. it wasn't China's magnanimity that allowed Jews to take refuge.

the other thing about this horrible Holocaust/coronavirus comparison is that the acting Chinese ambassador in Israel once again blamed 'fake news' for why countries are imposing such border-control measures...

“It’s ironic...that while many Westerners are worried about out-of-context messages from Asia, people in mainland China and HK are trying to fight misinformation by looking to mainstream Western sources.” Solution: let Chinese media independently report.

Again, I don’t think any country should close its borders to Chinese nationals, but the lack of self-awareness from China’s foreign ministry is mind blowing. Next time they say this, please ask them about what they did to Mexicans in 2009.
