I’m genuinely curious, how is he the greatest DA ever?

Honestly? He embodies the criminal justice reform this entire country needs right now. Glad it's happening in my city.

I’m all for showing mercy to some non-violent offenders, first time non-violent offenders, erasing cannabis convictions, all that. But his lack of prosecutions for violent offenders, and ignoring the victims, is beyond the pale. When is enough, enough?

I think it all starts at the top, you know? Chesa isn't going to prosecute petty theft at Walgreen for example, yeah? Those can and will be dramatically curbed once we find a place for these people to stay, to get sober, etc..

Just arresting these people over and over again is like putting a band aid on a tumor. It doesn't work and only masks the problem temporarily. We need to house these people. That's when you'll see much less crime everywhere in the city.

And if housing in SF is a prereq requirement to address addiction, criminal and other antisocial behavior, they will be waiting forever. This is CRUEL. Talk to people who rehabbed--it's almost always the case that it was compelled. The DA is perpetuating harm by enabling.

“They’ll be waiting FOREVER” Yeah, and my point is they shouldn’t have to. Look, you’re not going to solve the homeless problem by sending all the homeless to jail. Same with addiction. You need accessible housing and rehab. Not one or the other. Both, and yes, that works.

I am not advocating for jail. That's a red herring that has people wasting away on the streets.

You’re advocating for more policing, correct?

I’m advocating for an appropriate amount of policing, along with hammering street drug dealers and their bosses, treatment for addicts, housing for those who want to use it temporarily to restart their lives, but not a permanent housing solution to just anyone who asks.
