Hey ! Ontology recapitulates phylogeny is Ernst Haeckel's hypothesis that as embryos develop (ontology) they pass through stages resembling adult forms of their evolutionary ancestors (phylogeny) 🐟🦎🐣🦦

Moving toward the genetic basis of diversification. Evolution at a single gene diversifies bioluminescent signals. New pre-print by and colleagues.

The newest pre-print from the dropped! With , , and many others. We've discovered new luciferases from our sea fireflies (💡🦐), expressed a few proteins, and found some interesting mol. evolution with fun phenotypes!

Excited to see my final chapter published We found that odorant receptor tuning is linked to the evolution of sexual signaling in orchid bees using a combination of chemical ecology, population genetics, whole-genome resequencing, and neurophysiology

There’s so much more to a butterfly’s wings than what meets the human eye! This paper, published today in PNAS, provides new insight into how butterflies keep their cool, and what we can learn from it! (feel free to DM me your email address for .pdf)

The giant ostracod may look like a swimming orange ping-pong ball, but it's actually a shrimp-like animal that swims by rowing its long, feathery antennae. Their enormous eyes are shaped like parabolic mirrors to help spot prey. Truly, !

What led to butterflies & moths’ dazzling diversity? A new study led by shows flowers & butterflies evolved in sync, but can’t take credit for all cool defenses: Many moths evolved “ears” long before bats existed. Story:

red and brown butterfly feeding at a small red flower

What if each journal supplied a pre-formatted word doc like UC did for my dissertation? Maybe that's not useful because of how unique each ms is... PS. $477/person/ms is not as scary of a number, but still far too much.
