I think to have decent online conversations we need enough moderators and we need to enforce high standards. Not just no cursing, no insults

Yes, that's what I remember, but I'm not sure it's possible to have small communities at media sites now.

On Slate comments, we have a weekly off topic open thread. We get about 200 of our users there- our regulars. Also have 1000s of drivebys.
