Hmm. Unless I've really missed something, the people objecting strongly to this were black women, not trans people.

It's not ignorant, it intends to bother some people. Either race is a vestigial social construct, or it's genetic/essential
I think there's also the position that social constructs aren't easily or trivially disposed of.

Arguments for trans rights also don't eliminate gender. And that's identical to, "you don't agree with me, so you must be ignorant"
