Only true if you believe that there's no root biological or chemical cause for transness. Dolezal isn't claiming she was born black...

yeah, I totally agree. Though I get the sense that a lot of mainstream thinking on trans stuff tries to eschew the born this way stuff

I struggled with that in my coming out process--the fear that being trans wasn't "real" and my feelings had been culturally influenced.
