I strongly believe we Americans have to catch up mentally to the reality of our loss of cultural dominance.

It's hard to do. I was brought up to barely think about the rest of the world, and assume all foreigners wanted to be us.

This is so fascinating! I grew up with mostly immigrants and had no idea this was common. Is it just nationalism? Something else?

I'm not sure I have enough distance to know- I see it in many Americans, though. I believe it's most of us.

For instance, watching a twitch streamer from Singapore, the American teenager asks "What do you think of Donald Trump?"

There's so much privilege in that question, in the expectation of an opinion, that he cares, bc Trump impacts life in Singapore too.
