You're right. Ppl elsewhere have their own culture + US culture (thru books and films). US dominates in a way but isn't overwhelming.
And thanks so much for recommending an Asian book. There is so much systemic exclusion/marginalization of non-Western languages.Being brought up in a more dominant culture is impoverishing in a way one has no way of noticing when it's happening.
