I strongly believe we Americans have to catch up mentally to the reality of our loss of cultural dominance.
And thanks so much for recommending an Asian book. There is so much systemic exclusion/marginalization of non-Western languages.It's hard to do. I was brought up to barely think about the rest of the world, and assume all foreigners wanted to be us.

I'm not sure I have enough distance to know- I see it in many Americans, though. I believe it's most of us.
