As Jesse suggested, I did this in a more sophisticated way than saying I loved baseball (which would have been a lie).
In order to get people to use a different name or prescribe me hormones, I had to convince them I was trans.

But, ultimately trans folks are in the position of proving their internal feelings about their gender are real/important.
