@v_urq No - I think the phenomenon of gender identity is much more complicated than "I verbalized it therefore it's true"

@transphilosophr I'm glad. This "identity" concept seems so slippery to me. Can someone lie about their identity? Can they be mistaken?

@v_urq If you casually asked a random person, "What is your gender?" there is a very small chance they'd be lying - take it at face value

@transphilosophr Certainly, as a practical matter. But as a philosophical one- is gender id something one can lie or be mistaken about?

@v_urq Philosophically I suppose it's possible that someone could lie or make an error - but how is that relevant to practical reality?

@transphilosophr Well, for example, if I believed that being trans was a matter of my beliefs and feelings and had no outside existence...

@v_urq My belief that I am in pain right now "has no outside existence" - is that belief false or delusional? No. Why is gender different?
