The problem with the trans brain sex theory is it's based on a small number of studies that haven't been replicated w/ small sample sizes
@transphilosophr I'm glad. This "identity" concept seems so slippery to me. Can someone lie about their identity? Can they be mistaken?

@v_urq Gender identity used to be called "psychological sex" - it's the sex/gender we feel/believe/intuit/conceive ourselves to beThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@v_urq It goes way beyond "identification" - it involves multiple systems of self-evaluation in the brain including feelings and beliefsThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@v_urq If you casually asked a random person, "What is your gender?" there is a very small chance they'd be lying - take it at face value -
@transphilosophr Certainly, as a practical matter. But as a philosophical one- is gender id something one can lie or be mistaken about?

@v_urq Ask a cis woman "What is your gender?" they say "I'm a woman" -Ask a trans woman "What is your gender?" they say "im a woman" no dif. -
@transphilosophr Late transitioner comes to you. Ask them their gender id, they say male. Ask their sexual orientation, they say lesbian.

@v_urq If you ask someone "Are you in pain?" and they say "yes" sure they could be lying about it but normally we take self-report seriously -
@transphilosophr If the person is a doctor and they're a narcotics addict they don't.
