Jesse Singal spoke on a private listserv about the relative lack of qualification trans people have to write about trans issues, compared to himself. (He later complimented my work and told me he didn't mean someone like me, he meant unqualified trans people.)

There are political activists organizing to make trans healthcare a felony. Trans people are massively likely to be impoverished, homeless and unemployed, because ordinary people don't think we're respectable or responsible and discriminate against us.

And, we're caught in a terrible catch-22, because by talking about how desperate things are for us we further cement the opinion of hyper-emotional, unreasonable, shrill activist trans person.

Which means cis writers- often white men- feel even more justified in the opinion that their rational, above it all discussion of our lives and rights is the legitimate discussion, while our pleas to be taken seriously are emotional nonsense that can be ignored.
