      I have a confession. Outside the fourth movie in the 9th grade, and Abram's 2009 film, I'm unfamiliar with Star Trek. Where would be a good place to start and which episodes should I skip?

      The next generation is a good starting place, read summaries of major season 1+2 plot points (ie, who Tasha Yar is and what happens to her) but don't watch them. If you take to the show, go back and watch later/watch recommended eps.

      Yes! After spoiling yourself on a few major things in TNG. And then, if you like TNG, watch DS9 from the beginning and you'll love it.
