For those reading, the doctor DOES say she would prescribe them for a 5 year old child. A 5 year old! Sounds like the younger the better, for Doc Mason???
That's not what she's saying though. She's saying that the conditions in which a child WOULD be prescribed would be rare, and would require a referral to a specialist.
Also, I'm not a doctor, and definitely not a specialist, but there is a big difference, developmentally, between a 5 year old and an 8 year old. What that means medically, I don't know, but this isn't the gotcha you seem to think it is.
Sigh. I would not prescribe them ever, I'm not a pediatric endocrinologist. I would refer a 5 yr old, but not an 8 yr old. The cost/benefit ratio is too high for the 8 yr old. The danger here is short stature, from prematurely closed growth plates in the bones.
