I never felt any particular way about women's clothing until I finally started wearing men's clothing, as an adult, and experienced an immediate, permanent improvement in my mental health.https://twitter.com/charlescgirard/status/1371997748183105537 …

This was a time, not long ago, when masc fashions were very "hip" with queer women, so a couple yrs after I started wearing men's clothes multiple companies came out with "men's clothing for women" as their hook. And I felt physically sick at the thought.

I still didn't realize I was trans (though this was one of the early cracks in my egg), but I felt so intensely that "men's clothing for women" would defeat the entire purpose. I wore men's to make my body look less woman-ish, so I could breathe.

Funny how we all have different (and totally valid) responses to that. As a transmasc person I was grateful for the emergence of this kind of clothing because actual men's clothing has never (and will never) fit me properly. Wearing men's clothing made my dysphoria worse.

lol yeah, for me the 'not fitting' was the point, but I'd gladly wear a dress if it somehow had the ability to make me look like I was a man in a dress.

(By gladly I should perhaps clarify that it would be my second choice after looking like a man in men's clothes- I'd pick that over looking like a woman wearing men's clothing)

That's totally valid. The "not fitting" made my other body issues worse, which aggravated the dysphoria to untenable levels, so there's a lot I still have to unpack.

Oh, absolutely- dysphoria interacts with our individual psyche and hits different ways for different folks. No right or wrong there!
