I will say, it is VERY INTERESTING to see that all the conservative money, including money to Littman and money to detrans groups, has not so far ended up funding a really robust look at the numbers here.https://twitter.com/e_urq/status/1371877142917681154 …

I feel pretty confident that if the money people thought detransition was common there'd be enough funding to find the real rate. It would be a massive blow, potentially bringing tons of fence sitters, frightened parents, and tepid allies over to the anti-trans side.

Seriously, I don't know Littmans full research plan, but surverying detransitioners without comparing their stories with those of trans people is... not going to even slightly support the idea that ROGD exists and no legitimate researcher could ever imagine it would.

If you found something like ROGD among detransitioners and DIDN'T find it among trans people, then you'd have something. Not much, since you'd still have no idea how common it is, but something.

But as far as I can tell, surveying a trans control group doesn't seem to be part of her plan, and you have to ask yourself- why? If she;s doing an online survey, just as easy to get trans results as a control group too, right?

There's 2 reasons a study of detrans ppl wouldn't look for differences btw detrans and trans people: 1. Finding differences undermines a hypothesis that all trans men will detrans. 2. No differences undermines the case for pubertal onset as non-normative for trans men.

Either way, if you want to actually produce interesting finding about detransitioners you need trans people in your study as controls. I could be wrong, but from her call for participants Littman's doing a survey of detrans ppl w/o trans folks to compare them to.

(I've said this before, and then as now I am purposefully not trying to prevent her from seeing this critique. If she takes it to heart and does better research because if it that would be a great outcome, as far as I'm concerned!)
