I could make a lot of money being the trans-skeptical trans guy. If there's ever evidence to support a high detransition rate centered on AFABs I will write the stories and cash the checks.

Obv not qualified to diagnose anyone, but the main thing I know of that can manifest as gender dysphoria but isn't is OCD. If you have obsessive, disturbing, intrusive thoughts about transitioning and/or obsessive, intrusive fears that you might be trans and....
...some part of you doesn't feel like you have all that much in common with stories from trans people, I'd explore the possibility that this is OCD and perhaps start by addressing the intrusive thoughts through OCD treatment, rather than pursuing transition.

Other than that, obv anyone who experiences psychotic symptoms would want to be careful and rely on trusted professionals. Some people with unrealistic expectations are really unhappy when post-transition they don't have cis bodies. Those are the big ones, to my knowledge.

That makes sense. I hadn't thought of that being a possibility. For me, though, my hesitation comes almost entirely from fearing my loved ones will reject me and I'll never be employed again. Guess I have even more to think about. Thank you!
