In this article, I throw my 9 year old niece under the bus (and burn my own 9 year old taste majorly for good measure), and tell the world my truth: Roblox is a very bad video game.https://slate.com/culture/2021/03/roblox-direct-listing-explained-its-just-terrible.html …

"Roblox doesn’t invite her into the creation process; her only role is to consume." What do you mean by that? My 7 year old is constantly "creating" things in Robolox.

I mean that the developer/creators are separated from the players/customers, rather than everyone having the same access to dev tools as they would in, for example, Minecraft.

My son says he created some “tycoon” game in Roblox Studio. Doesnt Roblox Studio give you all the same-type of dev tools access that Minecraft does? I honestly don’t know and would like to know :)

Yeah, absolutely, this is the heart of the matter- the division between "Roblox Studio" (creator tools) and "Roblox" (game portal). So, while "Roblox" puts out both creator tools & game portal, customers for the game portal aren't advertised/taught/encouraged to use the tools.

With Minecraft you have the base game of which is all about building things. You can't play the base game of Minecraft without learning about building things in Minecraft. With Roblox, they separate 2 sets of customers. Studio is for creators, the game portal is for players.

I think you’re misunderstanding how most(?) kids use Roblox and Roblox studio. My kid says that when he started playing Roblox it popped-up with a box that told him about Roblox Studio so he’s always used both.

He might have gotten in earlier, before it was well populated, when they were actively advertising Studio? DL the app on your phone, make a new account, and try to find studio. (I did- it was difficult to find & my phone couldn't make use of the dev tools, I needed a laptop.)

Ahhh. It almost might be because he plays Roblox on a laptop and not an iPad or iPhone?

Oh yeah, that sounds like it could be where the disconnect is!
