I've seen a lot of detransitioners advice for parents of "ROGD daughters" in my research and EVERY SINGLE DAMN TIME they say "nothing could have convinced me, the only thing that would have helped was if my parents supported me until I figured it out for myself."https://twitter.com/reclaimingtrans/status/1370042764172271617 …

You seriously can't go wrong in loving and supporting your kid and trusting them to figure things out for themselves. I say this as someone who does actually believe there can be a role for parents in slowing a kid down who wants hormones/surgery (not blockers).

My advice to a parent afraid their under-18 kid is moving too quickly toward surgery/hormones is: 1. USE THEIR NAME/PRONOUNS 2. LET THEM WEAR THE CLOTHES THEY WANT Then if you put the breaks on they'll understand it comes from loving caution, not transphobic rejection.

My advice to a parent afraid their over-18 kid is moving too quickly toward surgery/hormones is: 1. same as above 2. same as above 3. express gentle concern that acknowledges they're an adult and it is ultimately their decision 4. drop it forever
