Literally not once have I seen any other advice to parents from a detransitioner. And yet- Surprise! Loving and supporting your kid and trusting them to figure things out in their own time never seems to be the more "official" transphobic advice for these parents.

You seriously can't go wrong in loving and supporting your kid and trusting them to figure things out for themselves. I say this as someone who does actually believe there can be a role for parents in slowing a kid down who wants hormones/surgery (not blockers).

My advice to a parent afraid their under-18 kid is moving too quickly toward surgery/hormones is: 1. USE THEIR NAME/PRONOUNS 2. LET THEM WEAR THE CLOTHES THEY WANT Then if you put the breaks on they'll understand it comes from loving caution, not transphobic rejection.

My advice to a parent afraid their over-18 kid is moving too quickly toward surgery/hormones is: 1. same as above 2. same as above 3. express gentle concern that acknowledges they're an adult and it is ultimately their decision 4. drop it forever

It reminds me of high school when friends would try to come out as bi and suddenly it’s “I know you want to be trendy like the kids on skins but your cool friends have brainwash my baby!”

Is this not just detransitioners who support the existence of trans people, though? I've definitely seen several detransitioners on Twitter who say they'd have preferred it if people told them that transness is just a "cult," or an escape from their "real problems."

I haven't seen everything a detransitioner has ever said about this, but generally they say their parents' outright rejection fed their mentality and made them more dependent on the trans community, but if their parents had 'played along' they'd have come to their senses earlier.
