Five reasons WHY trans men need increased visibility 1. Transandrophobia is at the core of arguments for gatekeeping (protecting 'girls' from being transed) 2. Testosterone as a controlled substance means trans men face barriers to access and criminal penalties for DIY.
3. Trans men's mere existence provides a natural refutation for many transphobic arguments based in bio essentialism or transmisogyny. 4. Transmasculine people are victims of rape at horrific rates, well above that of transfemmes.
And, last but not least: 5. Trans men can be leaders in the project to create healthy masculinities and reach towards an ideal of manhood that eschews both toxicity and shame.
Transmascs aren't asking for more visibility because we'd like more representation (though we would), or because invisibility in our own community hurts (though it does).
We're asking because we have unique needs that are going unmet, there are unique prejudices that target us, and our community has unique strengths that we can contribute, in solidarity, to help free us all.
Absolutely! It's a big part of why I try to signal boost anywhere that makes sense. Like the DISCOURSE with Clue the other day - bigots were blaming it on transfem people. Umm, what? This is about solidarity with trans men and Non-binary people who menstruate.
Right? Some percentage of the dumbest transphibic shit can be combatted merely by people knowing the newest outrage is about including trans men, and had nothing to do with trans women at all.
