It's definitely a thing- I almost did it a while back but held off due to finances and never went back to it. I had the same question as you, basically whether it would be as high quality if the person I worked with mainly did feminization.
The individual I almost worked with is in Chicago but was willing to work remotely, and I felt reassured that I wouldn't be the first trans guy she'd helped.
One thing she mentioned that I've found decently helpful just doing on my own is working on achieving a low, masculine sounding, resonant singing voice and using that as a stepping stone.
