I would not dream of making the claim that these were solidly-equal, meeting-of-peers-without-hierarchy relationships. That honor goes to my relationship with my current wife- who is a lesbian and has never been anything else- which is obviously causing us some problems.
It really sounds like it. I don't want to speak for my wife, but I think she could *perhaps* get on board with the physical changes if she didn't have to be seen as a woman married to a man by the broader public.
