Example: A character on a TV show is fat. My niece might say "He's fat." Then immediately cover her mouth and apologize to me and the air in the room for having said this unforgivable thing. I try to counter with "Yeah, isn't he funny?" Or "Oh yeah, he's a big fat guy, huh?"

It goes beyond just the word fat, too. Yesterday I was playing Mario 3DW with the 9 yr old. She observed that the Tanooki suit "makes Peach's butt look kinda big" and then immediately apologized for noticing Tanooki Peach's funny round butt.

I've been watching The History of Swear Words with the 9 yr old (trying to instill a lifelong love of learning via giggling over people in a show saying "fuck") and I actually wonder if fat is on its way to becoming a curse word, based on this behavior.
