People who don't grind black pepper over the butter on their sandwich before adding the filling are missing out big time.

I live in the US and mostly people put mayo on our sandwiches here but I guess they use butter in the UK.

Butter and Mayo I’ll have you know. They serve two different purposes.

sure, sure. the butter makes it delicious, and then the mayo makes it so unappetizing you throw the sandwich away and have a salad.
