There are trans people who were lucky/unlucky enough to be strongly gender nonconforming from early childhood, but there's also a lot of us who figured out what the expectations were and conformed to them, and I think we often feel a lot of self-doubt and shame because of it.

This sounds familiar. I was allowed to be a tomboy, although I never was the way it’s usually thought of—my mom just kept telling me what a pretty girl I was and look at that pretty, girlish actress, you look just like her!

I always hated it and it made me so angry but I didn’t understand why when someone was saying nice things about me!
