If you don't follow @TransMediaWatch (thinking particularly of @HelenCBelcher's submission to Leveson - don't make me think how long ago that was!) then I really recommend it

Followed, and thanks. I admit I mostly just came up with the climbing joke and went from there, but I did get one nice lady to admit she'd been misinformed as to the broadness with which "chestfeeding" was going to be applied.

I think one of the things which is hard to convey is that this isn't *just* transphobia - it's a complicated product of press laws/libel laws/ongoing practice etc. etc. etc. - and that trans ppl are not the only targets of media scaremongering to sell papers/get clicks.

I was reminiscing earlier today about the "crazy leftwing language" scare stories of my youth (in the US, but probably UK had this). It was about about crazy women using Ms instead of Miss/Mrs, waitperson instead of waitress, and flight attendant instead of stewardess.

"strident feminist" "hairy-legged woman's libber" etc.

But yes, we really got those too. Especially around the time of the "debate" about women vicars, if childhood memory serves.

Now I'm picturing a strident hairy-legged woman's libber who is also a vicar and the incongruity is giving me a big chuckle.

There is no incongruity - you've just described some of the best people I've ever met!
