There's a clever little trick behind the outrage over "chestfeeding" as a suggested alternative (not replacement) to breastfeeding, and the reason it works is, once again, say it with me: TRANSMASCULINE INVISIBILITY.

and behold, an excellent illustration of why transmascs aren't "transmisogyny-exempt" great thread !!

nope, it's actually the exact opposite. it's saying that when trans men ask for something, the hatred is directed at US. the whole point of the thread is "trans men are seen as nonthreatening so they're invisible". WE experience the unique hatred that is transmisogyny.

Sure, I'm not saying the experience is equal, here. But with the hatred being directed towards us, trans mascs are erased. It's the same way that while women suffer a lot more from the patriarchy, it also harms men (emotional suppression, mocked for taking parental roles)

I wanted to step in and mention that, while trans men are often invisible, that doesn't mean that there is no active transphobia directed uniquely at us. No one's come up with a word for it, but attempts to limit medical treatment for minors and increase gatekeeping target us.

Instead of a "man in a dress" stereotype, these efforts use the "mentally ill woman" stereotype to argue that trans people shouldn't have access to medical care because women are too dumb and easily influenced to make informed decisions with their doctors.

The "mentally ill woman/teen girl" stereotype targets trans men, and not trans women. It's unique to us, and there's no word for it because of transmasc invisibility in the trans community.

This isn't to suggest trans women are to blame for transphobia targeting us not being given equal attention. Awareness is currently growing, and trans women get enough shit. Trans men have to put it on the agenda. I merely ask others not to dismiss it when we do.
