There's a clever little trick behind the outrage over "chestfeeding" as a suggested alternative (not replacement) to breastfeeding, and the reason it works is, once again, say it with me: TRANSMASCULINE INVISIBILITY.

I don’t understand. Why is chestfeeding being suggested? Not a criticism I just don’t understand

because some trans masculine and AFAB none binary people do not like to refer to their mammary tissue as breasts

Then they need therapy and a science lesson. Breasts are a gender neutral term to reference solely to the area around the nipples of primates, which we as humans stem from. Cis men have breasts and thus can get breast cancer. 1/4 replies 0 retweets 5 likes -

Yeah but who cares what a person wants to call parts of their own body? That’s the whole point, if they’re more comfortable saying “chestfeeding” than breastfeeding why would that bother you? Do you always refer to every part of your body by it’s correct and full anatomical name?

But its not for just an individual. The current instance is an entire NHS Trust implementing this language as the status quo. It'd be like someone demanding we call it titfeeding because they find breasts offensive.

No, no one is implementing this language as the status quo. You've been misinformed by sensationalist anti-trans media. They're using it as an example of alternative language that trans men (and nonbinary people) who are pregnant might prefer. You intentionally were misled.

It would absolutely be outrageous if doctors and nurses working with pregnant women would no longer be able to use "breastfeeding". But it is not the case. It's a preposterous lie intentionally told to you to get you to hate trans people. Look it up, if you don't believe me.
