There's a clever little trick behind the outrage over "chestfeeding" as a suggested alternative (not replacement) to breastfeeding, and the reason it works is, once again, say it with me: TRANSMASCULINE INVISIBILITY.

That's for sure. It's also not helped by the erasure of breastfeeding knowledge our (misogenistic transphobic formula-conglomerate) culture continues to perform. So people can't even imagine a trans or cis woman inducing lactation to breastfeed a baby they didn't give birth to.

reminds me of when the talk was non-gendered period products and people started screaming about 'the transgenders are gonna stick tampons up their butts?? is it a SEX thing? are you FETISHIZING womanhood?' and no amount of 'transguys and also nonfeminine ciswomen exist' worked

Yep, exact same thing.

This is basically right, but I would note that I encounter a surprising number who, when I point out that this sort of thing is about the comfort of trans men and has nothing to do with trans women, insist that I am lying.

Personally? I say get rid of both unnecessarily-anatomy-related terms, just call it “natural feeding” (which is precisely what it is regarding of the torso providing it), and avoid all current and future naming problems entirely.
