I just got Ring Fit Adventure. It was a somewhat grudging purchase, and I approached it with a sense of shame and duty... And man, I am immediately converted. It is AWESOME.

It's easy to customize it so it's not too hard for a beginner/someone who hasn't been to the gym since the pandemic started. My first workout was so much fun I genuinely can't wait to do more later. I had to make myself quit after a 6.5 minute intro so I could get back to work.

Something ring fit gets right that so many exercise videos/classes/trainers/etc get wrong is that it feels encouraging without being condescending.

The writing is part of this, but I think the voice acting is mainly what I'm responding to. It simply doesn't feel like a fitness instructor who knows they should be encouraging me but is actually cringing at how out of shape I am.

I am, admittedly, waaaaay too sensitive to hearing even a bit of that tone from a fitness guru- but in the past it's been a huge barrier to working out for me.

I don't know anything about the making of Ring Fit Adventure, but my guess is is that they used voice actors rather than people in fitness/training and it made a big difference. Being encouraging just sounds different from straining to sound encouraging.

I actually enjoy working out quite a bit, but I'm a like what I like/hate what I don't kind of person when it comes to fitness. I tend to hate cardio and love strength. RFA has elements of both, but the ability to dial the difficulty wayyyy down on the cardio is a huge plus.

I'm very good at upping the difficulty to make sure I stay challenged, but there's a dynamic with cardio workouts where they start beginners out feeling like they're going to die and then it gets easier, and I just have no stomach for that shit.
