...now turn around and say that vastly reduced desistance is, somehow, someway, the fault of the treatment (rather than the obvious explanation of a huge improvement in diagnosis). It's maddening. There's no attempt to engage with research in a good faith way.

After wishing for transphobes to engage with medical research in good faith, my second wish to have them put a date on when the huge increase in detransition rates they've been predicting is going to hit, so we can wait, then say definitively if that prediction was correct.

Tbh sometimes I can't tell if they genuinly believe it or they just wanna spread anti-trans propaganda at all costs. I figure it depends on the person.
-
Definitely depends on the person. They're often extremely scientifically illiterate, which is true of most people but maddening when they make scientific arguments then don't even have the fundamentals needed to engage with critiques of those arguments.

I also wonder about the study periods. Bc "desistance" (whether effem. gay or trans) as a child doesn't mean jack about a person's behavior once the person doesn't depend on parents for shelter and so on.
-
Yeah, that's another nuance of discussing a despised minority who are sent into conversion therapy by parents who are determined never to support them- what does it even mean when the conversion therapy "works".

There's something interesting to unpack in the possibility they might desist during puberty, anything that causes that degree of psychological change is going to have interesting results. But I've seen no evidence it's a good reason to force them through it
-
It's a possibility in the sense that all sorts of wild ideas are possibilities. If there was evidence for it I'd take it seriously- but it's speculation based on a desire to have a political outcome (denying trans ppl medical care) and retconning evidence to try and fit that.
