It's ironic that the existence of people who detransition doesn't actually invalidate transgender identitities, while the existence of ex-members of the ideological rad fem detransition movement does invalidate that movement. Trans people and supporters of trans rights do not claim that everyone should transition. They don't even claim that transition works for everyone. The key claim is that transition is an effective- though not 100% perfect- treatment for gender dysphoria.
On the other hand, the ideological rad fem detransition movement claims transition is ineffective, the desire to transition is caused by living as an AFAB under sexism, and feminist consciousness raising can eliminate the need for FtM transition entirely.
This means that if someone comes out and says it doesn't work, that has a far larger impact. Bc the key claim isn't that rad fem ideology might help some dysphoric people some of the time- the ideology seeks to explain all AFAB transition and eliminate the need for it.
